Yucaipa Soccer receives President?s Award During Nike Annual Benefit

Anaheim, CA (PRWEB) March 12, 2005

During this year?s annual Nike Awards Banquet, Yucaipa Valley Youth Soccer Organization was presented the 2005 Cal South Presidents Award. The esteemed award is given to one recreational league from Southern California each year that shows commitment to improving its program through innovative ideas and promoting the good of the game. The Nike Awards Banquet is held in conjunction with the Cal South Annual General Meeting and Soccer Nation, the largest soccer expo on the west coast.

This year Yucaipa will also offer the TOP Soccer program which provides opportunities for disabled children to participate in structured soccer games. Mikki Alvarez will be overseeing the program.

YVYSO will also be implementing a Youth Development Program for the U6 and U8 divisions. ?Yucaipa is growing rapidly? said Ken Smith (President, YVYSO). ?The future of youth soccer in Yucaipa is dependent on the success of our new coaches and first-time players. It?s our goal to develop a world class [soccer culture], that provides every player and coach the opportunity to learn the game of soccer and have fun doing so?. Hence their motto ?Family, Friends, Fun . . . One goal at a time?!

YVYSO has been pursuing many avenues to help secure final funding to complete the Yucaipa Soccer Complex. Due to the generous contributions from Jerry Lewis the complex is to be named the Jerry Lewis Regional Soccer Complex once the facility is complete. Other companies that the board is pursuing include William Lyon Homes, LA Galaxy, and members of the Cal South Field Foundation, among others. Specific needs include paving the road and parking area, lighting, goal posts, fencing, sports netting, picnic benches, field repair from rain damage and completing a permanent concession and restroom facility.

YVYSO is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Anyone interested in assisting the league with these projects can contact Ken Smith or Jody Sigmund at 790-5455.

Please be sure to check their web site at http://www.yucaipasoccer.org for upcoming clinics and events. The board also asked to mention that they need parents to step up this year and help by coaching their child?s team. It?s fun and the players need you.
