Large family foster care providers - Adoption.com Forums

Well, we have a large family, but we learned quickly that lots of babies in the house did not work with our crew. Homeschooling started to become a "cram it into a tiny window" event that wasn't fun for any of us. For the past year and a half we've said "no babies". In October we accepted an adoptive placement of three kids that included a 2 yr old and our youngest was also 2, and I'll tell you, it was a challenge. We are incredibly organized and have a "place for everything" in our house. It's the only way to survive. I read some other post on here that talked about someone needing to get a toy box. BIG mistake. They become receptacles for all kinds of things from spiders to lost toys to hidden stolen food rotting at the bottom. I much prefer bins with toys divided by category. The kids can ask me to pull out their cars and then they can't have their action figures until the cars get put back. We also follow a fairly tight schedule. We allow some times of free play, but we know when every meal snack and therapist is coming.

A friend of mine is homeschooling and running a day care out of her home. She's got 4 day care kids in her house all under the age of 2 right now. I don't know how she does it.

It's a huge challenge. I'm not saying you shouldn't do it, but that you need to decide if this is something that your family should be doing at this particular moment in time. It really depends on how old your bios are and how much independent work they can do and how much you want them to do. Part of the reason we homeschool is the opportunity to share the learning experience with our kids. I love teaching them and seeing them "get it". It's not okay to me to just watch them do all their work while I'm busy changing dealing with screaming babies. Y'know?
