The reasons people go into business vary from being unemployed, having a brilliant idea to thinking they can do their job better than their boss.? Most of the people I talk with are great at what they do?.whether it?s an appraiser, painter or lawyer.? However, making the transition from being an employee to a business owner isn?t as easy as most people think.
I?ve been running business groups for over 10 years.? When I ask members ?if you could change one thing in your business? one of the common answers is Marketing.? Whether it?s finding time to market, hiring someone to do the marketing or just implementing a marketing strategy, it is a struggle for most business owners.
Unfortunately, without marketing ? without clients, there is no business.? Here are a few strategies to help with the marketing process:
- Schedule time every week for marketing ? yes, working with clients is essential, but if you put it off too long, the well will soon be dry!
- Hire Someone ? you can hire an intern, a part timer or if the budget allows, hire a full time staff person to help you get this aspect accomplished.? Make it part of the receptionists responsibilities to get some of your mailers done or to hold you accountable!
- Outsource your marketing ? hiring another firm such as a virtual assistant, a marketing firm or an outsourced CMO allows you to use only the hours you need for the task you want to accomplish and since you are contracting with another business, the work should get completed.
- Join a Business Group ? being part of a business group can be invaluable to a business owner.? You meet with other business owners and receive solutions to many of the challenges you face.? When it comes to marketing, you can hold each other accountable and as you build trust in other members in your group you might share resources.? An added bonus is when business is passed among members as well!
Remember, without clients, it?s hard to stay in business, so make your marketing a priority.? Even if it?s just an hour a week!? The first step is to develop your marketing strategy.? Then start small, create a routine and before you know it, business will be rolling in the door!
