Sky Sports Pundit Lauds Tottenham ?Powerhouse? Sandro

Jamie Redknapp has lavished praise on Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Sandro following the Brazilian's impressive display at Carrow Road on Tuesday night.

The prodigiously gifted holding midfielder has had to bide his time at Tottenham this season after injuries curtailed his involvement earlier in the year.

The aforementioned Sky Sports pundit, who is also the son of Spurs' boss Harry Redknapp, believes the form of Scott Parker has inevitably inhibited Sandro's starts for Tottenham this season but he claims the towering 22-year-old is ideally suited to Premier League football.

Redknapp believes Sandro is now worthy of a starting berth at Tottenham and intimates the midfield trio of Parker, Modric and the Brazilian could prove a hugely potent asset as the north London Premier League club bid to sustain their title challenge.

"Sandro has had to be patient for his chances this season with Scott Parker in such outstanding form." Redknapp told the Daily mail, while discussing Tottenham's midfield Brazilian. "He hurt his knee playing for Brazil in the summer and then found himself out of the Spurs side.

Like us on Facebook

"He's a powerhouse of a player who is suited to the English game. He cuts out danger, gets around the pitch and could even play at centre half.

"He's tall, quick and strong, and will be a regular for his country. Spurs need to give him regular games. As last night showed, Parker, Luka Modric and Sandro work so well together." The former Spurs midfielder concluded.

Last night's victory ensured Tottenham maintained the pace behind joint leaders Manchester City and Manchester United. Harry Redknapp's side are just seven points behind and have a game in hand over their rivals.?

REPORT: The Next iPhone Will Have A Brand ... - Business Insider

Apple is getting ready to launch a completely redesigned iPhone for a Fall 2012 release, according to BGR, citing a close source.

The new phone will feature a rubbery material on the back that will connect the phone's aluminum backing to the front bezel.

Think of it as a built in "bumper" like the ones Apple sells now for the iPhone 4 and 4S.

BGR's source did not mention whether or not the next iPhone will have a larger, 4-inch screen, as many have reported before.

As with any rumor, don't take this as fact. Fall 2012 is a long way out and things could easily change.

Mulally: Continuous Improvement is 'at the Centerpiece of the Entire Ford Transformation'

With a focus on communication, collaboration and accountability, Alan Mulally has led Ford from the brink of bankruptcy to profitability -- without government bailout funds -- and has positioned the automaker for global growth.

In the process, Mulally has become the face of the U.S. auto industry's renaissance, and has earned a spot in the 2011 IndustryWeek Manufacturing Hall of Fame.

In a conversation with IndustryWeek earlier this month, Mulally reflected on his career at Ford and Boeing, and talked about the challenges and opportunities on the horizon for America's No. 2 automaker.

IW: Which of your achievements at Ford make you the proudest?

AM: Well I think I'd start with the products.

We now have arguably one of the finest complete product lines of any vehicle manufacturer worldwide -- and we're serving the customer with a complete lineup of very safe and efficient and wonderful cars and trucks and utilities. Another thing that we all feel very good about is the fact that we are now serving all of our customers around the world -- in the Americas, in Europe, Russia, Asia Pacific, India, China -- we're bringing all of these wonderful Ford products to so many customers around the world. Another one is that we're really creating a strong business. We've been growing. We've paid back the money that we borrowed. We're investing for the future -- we're going to add 12,000 jobs in the United States over the next couple of years, and they're great jobs, great careers. We are fighting for the soul of American manufacturing. We're competing with the best in the world, and we're actually exporting our vehicles now around the world based on our U.S. competitiveness. And the third one would be that we are all so proud to be contributing to a better world. What we are doing on petro and diesel engines and powertrains, on lightweight materials, on electrification, hybrids, plug-in hybrids, all-electric, hydrogen, natural gas -- we really are contributing to a better world. IW: What are the core values and leadership principles that have driven your success at Ford? AM: I'd start with the fundamental principle of people working together.

Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada Visited Canadian Troops and Civilians Deployed Abroad for the Holidays

Dec. 25, 2011 12:34 PM

OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 12/25/11 -- His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, visited from December 22 to 25, 2011, Canadian troops and civilians deployed in Italy and Afghanistan. His Excellency was joined by the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence, and General Walt Natynczyk, Chief of the Defence Staff.

"It was a privilege to extend my heartfelt gratitude and support to the Canadian men and women in uniform, and the many diplomats, aid specialists and police officers deployed abroad, who are committed to making parts of the world a safer and better place. The sacrifice of troops and civilians who are away from their families and friends at this time of the year is tremendous and I wish them the best of luck in the completion of their missions," said His Excellency.

Summary of activities during the visit

Upon his arrival in Rome, the Governor General visited the HMCS Vancouver, where he met with troops and thanked them for patrolling off the Libyan coast and for successfully contributing to the NATO mission in this region, which led to the liberation of Libya in October 2011.

His Excellency also met with Dr. Omar Zakhilwal, minister of Finance, Mr. Farooq Wardak, minister of Education, and Dr. Suraya Dalil, acting minister of Public Health, to discuss Afghanistan's future. Furthermore, he had an opportunity to celebrate Christmas with a diverse array of Canadians making contributions in Afghanistan.

Later on, His Excellency visited the Armed Forces Academy of Medical Sciences and engaged with Canadian Forces medical personnel who are mentoring Afghan medical staff. The Governor General concluded his trip to Afghanistan with a meet and greet with troops at Camp Alamo, Camp Black Horse and Canada House where he attended a Christmas concert put on by Canadian performers.

Childs ready for Cotton Bowl, NFL

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. ? Greg Childs doesn't think there's anything special about the way he has behaved this season.

The Arkansas wide receiver just smiles when he's asked about his on-the-field struggles and downplays the positive attitude he's shown while recovering from last season's knee injury.

The senior has graciously slipped from starring to a supporting role for the Razorbacks this season. Behind that smile, though, burns the same old Greg Childs ? one of the top receivers in the SEC for his first three seasons, one who still fully expects to shine in the NFL.

Childs' last NCAA game comes when No. 6 Arkansas (10-2) faces No. 8 Kansas State (10-2) on Jan. 6 in the Cotton Bowl.

?I'm just waiting my time; it's coming real soon,? Childs said. ?It's going to be a show.?

Childs led the Razorbacks in nearly every receiving category as a sophomore in 2009, finishing with 48 catches for 894 yards and seven touchdowns. He led the Razorbacks with 46 catches for 659 yards when he injured his knee against Vanderbilt in the eighth game of the season.

After an offseason of rehabilitation, Childs was clearly not full-speed. He finished the regular season with 16 catches for 192 yards, both career lows, and was seventh on Arkansas in catches.

By all accounts, Childs didn't let the drop in production affect his attitude.

?The fact that you can look at somebody and say, ?He was a great teammate' is, in my mind, more important than all that other stuff,? Arkansas quarterback Tyler Wilson said. ?And Greg has certainly been that.?

Those who know him have no doubt he'll have an impact moving forward ? both against the Wildcats and in the NFL.

?He's gotten back his speed,? Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino said. ?He'll be back next year.?

US Cellular launches the Huawei Ascend II next week, costs you nothing (after rebate)

Coming next week to a US Cellular website near you... we give you the Huawei Ascend II. The carrier's first Huawei device is no stranger on American soil, having spent a good five months on Cricket's lineup. While the handset was available for $180 with no contract on Cricket, US Cellular is offering it for free with a two-year commitment -- after a $100 mail-in rebate. Perhaps it's not as likely to induce salivation as we were hoping, but it may still be a temptation for a few smartphone fans on a budget that don't mind a contract. The Android 2.3 device, complete with a 3.5-inch HVGA display, 5MP camera and 600MHz CPU, is available online next week and will be offered in stores in early January.

Toddlers Don't Seem to Listen to Own Voices to Correct Speech (HealthDay)

FRIDAY, Dec. 23 (HealthDay News) -- Unlike adults and older children, toddlers do not listen to the sound of their voice to correct their speech, a new study finds.

Researchers had adults and 4-year-old and 2-year-old children say the word "bed" repeatedly while simultaneously hearing themselves say the word "bad."

This contradiction caused the adults and 4-year-olds to change the way they said "bed" to something more like the word "bid." However, the 2-year-olds kept saying "bed," the investigators found.

The findings, published online Dec. 22 in the journal Current Biology, suggest that toddlers use a different strategy to control their speech.

For example, they may rely on their parents or other people to monitor how they speak, study author Ewen MacDonald, of the Technical University of Denmark, noted in a journal news release.

MacDonald pointed out that parents and other caregivers often repeat back to young children what they've heard them say.

"As they play music, violinists will listen to the notes they produce to ensure they are in tune. If they aren't, they will adjust the position of their fingers to bring the notes back in tune," MacDonald said in the news release.

"When we speak, we do something very similar. We subconsciously listen to vowel and consonant sounds in our speech to ensure we are producing them correctly. If the acoustics of our speech are slightly different from what we intended, then, like the violinists, we will adjust the way we speak to correct for these slight errors," MacDonald explained. "In our study, we found that 4-year-olds monitor their own speech in the same way as adults. Surprisingly, 2-year-olds do not."

NASA Spacecraft Beam Space Christmas Photos to Earth (SPACE.com)

NASA spacecraft are beaming home some festive photographic treats, just in time for the holidays.

One shot, taken by NASA's Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE), captures a star-forming nebula that resembles a Christmas wreath. If you squint a little, the nebula's red dust cloud could be a bow, and the bluish-white stars look like silver bells.

The nebula is called Barnard 3, and it's found in the Perseus constellation. The star in the center of the red cloud, known as HD 278942, is so bright that it's lighting up most of the surrounding clouds. The red cloud is probably composed of dust that's cooler and more metallic than the material in surrounding regions, researchers said.

The different colors in the WISE image represent different wavelengths of infrared light. Blue and blue-green represent wavelengths of 3.4 and 4.6 microns, both of which come chiefly from stars. Green and red denote light from 12 and 22 microns, respectively, which are mostly emitted by dust, researchers said. [See the space Christmas photos]

WISE launched in December 2009 on a mission to survey the sky in infrared light. The telescope shut down in February of this year, after taking about 1.8 million images of cosmic objects and discovering more than 33,000 new asteroids. Researchers are still sifting through the huge amounts of data WISE collected during its observational life.

NASA's Saturn-studying Cassini probe has also delivered a photographic holiday package. Two newly released Cassini images show three of Saturn's frigid moons hanging in space like gaudy cosmic ornaments, girded by the massive planet's magnificent rings.

The natural-color photos depict Titan, Saturn's largest satellite. In each of them, a second, icy moon ? Dione in one case, Tethys in the other ? is visible in the distance behind the haze-enshrouded Titan.

While Earth's northern hemisphere is just now shifting into winter, it's currently northern spring in the Saturn system and will remain so for several years. Northern summer is due to arrive in 2017, and Cassini should be around to see the seasons change. NASA has extended the mission of the spacecraft, which launched in 1997 and arrived at Saturn in 2004, through 2017.

"As another year traveling this magnificent sector of our solar system draws to a close, all of us on Cassini wish all of you a very happy and peaceful holiday season," Carolyn Porco, Cassini imaging team lead at the Space Science Institute in Boulder, Colo., said in a statement.

London, ?GB???Dec 22, 2011

London, England - Mindshapes, the interactive learning company, today is proud to announce the Tap-A-Tune app for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch on the App Store. Young children will enjoy learning and playing classic nursery rhymes and holiday music with this app. The app will launch at an introductory price of $0.99 as part of the Mindshapes holiday sale.

Designed for children ages 2 and up, Tap-A-Tune helps improve hand-eye coordination and inspires a child to play music. To play a song, children tap on cute animal characters, each representing a musical note. As they do so, the animals pop up and down on the screen, dancing through the music.

"Young children love learning new songs and tunes, and Mindshapes' Tap-A-Tune app introduces them to the nursery rhymes and holiday songs they will know for their entire lives," says Christian Dorffer, a co-founder at Mindshapes. "Tap-A-Tune also helps children connect to the songs as they tap along, making the tune play on their device. They'll feel a great sense of accomplishment as they hear a song play from beginning to end." The Tap-A-Tune app has three different modes:

* Play mode:
Tap on the animals, as they pop up on the keyboard, to play the notes of a song. Afterwards, the song will play back in full.

* Freestyle mode:
Tap on any animal, in any sequence, to compose your own song.

* Baby mode:
Tap on an animal and the song will play automatically.

Children can also choose the instrument they want for each song. Choices include piano, accordion, clarinet and acoustic guitar.

Songs include:
Nursery Rhymes:
* Bah Bah Black Sheep

Mystery buyer acquires vatican.xxx web address (Reuters)

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) ? The Vatican said on Wednesday an unknown buyer had snapped up the internet address vatican.xxx, a domain combining its name with an extension reserved for pornographic content.

"This domain is not available because it has been acquired by someone else, but not the Vatican," Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi said on Vatican radio.

It was not clear from his statement if the Vatican had tried to acquire the domain in order to prevent future misuse and had been beaten to the punch by the unknown buyer.

Lombardi denied Italian media reports that the Vatican had, like many other organizations including companies, universities and museums, registered the xxx domain to prevent its misuse.

The xxx domains are being launched this month for pornographic content and many organizations have preemptively acquired them so others cannot.
