ZURICH - The president of the Barcelona soccer team wants the Spanish league cut from 20 clubs to 16 and limits placed on wealthy foreign owners.
Barcelona and Real Madrid dominate the league, and Barcelona President Sandro Rosell says the two clubs understand they must help opponents through fairer television deals. He told the International Football Arena conference Monday that a smaller league would be more competitive.
Barcelona and Madrid sign their own broadcast deals and collect much more money than their domestic rivals.
Rosell says they should agree within five years to follow the English Premier League and "put all the TV rights in one pot." However, Rosell says his fan-owned club cannot compete with foreign owners using their own capital to buy players.
