Economists Dismiss Egypt Bankruptcy Claims as Political

HMAAB8Z4H96HGC2?Egyptian economy in intensive care?, ?Egypt economy is headed towards collapse and complete bankruptcy ?, ?Egyptian economy is in free-fall? and ?Egypt on brink of deep economic crisis? blasted some Egyptian media in the current post-referendum phase of their vicious and desperate campaign, as the country?s credit rating is reduced, with a clear negative impact on investment projects.

The purpose of this treacherous war is to hit the Egyptian economy and stop the wheel of economic development. In fact, the Egyptian economy has witnessed a relatively remarkable improvement, confirmed by a Ministry of Finance report issued in November 2012.

That report reveals an increase in state revenues amounting to 40.3% during the previous five months, to reach 108,5 billion Egyptian Pounds (approximately US$18 billion), compared with 77.4 billion pounds during the same period of the previous year.

Furthermore, tax revenues collected from the Petroleum Authority and the Suez Canal increased by 17.3% and 15.6%, respectively, recording an increase of about 5 billion pounds.

Views of a number of experts affirm the reality of the Egyptian economy. To begin with, financial analyst Mohsen Adel, vice-president of the Egyptian Society for the Study of Finance and Investment confirms that Egypt cannot fall into bankruptcy as some claim. The concept of economic bankruptcy is that the State becomes unable to pay its financial obligations and repay its debts, and its banks file for bankruptcy.

?This is not happening at all. Egypt is not lagging behind on debts inherited from the former regime in the worst economic conditions. The devaluation of the Egyptian pound during the past few weeks is about 1%, which does not represent a threat to the local currency.

?Egypt has a cash reserve and fixed income ? including revenues from the Suez Canal, oil and tourism ? that exceed 15 billion dollars annually.?

Meanwhile, Dr. Rifaat Al-Awadi, professor of economics at Al-Azhar University said, ?The bankruptcy trap fables sung so fervently by political parties and politicized media affiliated with the former regime, with chaos and confusion they create with their baseless rumors, do adversely affect the Egyptian economy and have a negative impact on our relationship with foreign markets and our international relations. They also freeze the economic market at home?.

Further, Mohamed Gouda, member of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP)?s Economic Committee, points that those promoting the idea of ??bankruptcy in Egypt either talk without sure knowledge or wish to undermine the country?s stability and prosperity.

?The idea of ??bankruptcy is based on the State?s inability to repay its external debt. This does not exist in the case of Egyptian economy. Debt is currently limited to about US$34 billion. Egypt also makes regular repayments on this debt.

?The current crisis in the Egyptian economy is manifest only in an increase in the budget deficit, which is expected to be about 180 billion Egyptian pounds this year. Additionally, public debt has increased to 135 billion Egyptian pounds. All this costs the State 230 billion pounds in external debt premiums and interest. ?

Dr. Gouda stresses that, despite the severity of this crisis, Egypt has the human and material potential and resources that will enable it to achieve a great economic boom in a short period of time. He denied that the Egyptian economy will fall into bankruptcy in the near future.

?Of course, certain parties deliberately seek to mislead public opinion, spreading panic in the Egyptian society. Evidently, the goal of promoting such lies is to terrorize investors to stop investing their money in Egypt.

?In fact, Egypt?s credit rating was reduced 6 times in the past two years, since the revolution. The report on the latest reduction states that the reason for that is the unrest and turmoil in the political arena. This is reassuring, because those causes of chaos will disappear once state institutions are rebuilt and everyone returns to work and production.?

Dr. Gouda further points that as soon as stability is achieved in the political situation, the World Bank loan contract is signed, and political reforms are carried out, Egypt?s credit rating will rise again, which will certainly allow an outlook of optimism for the Egyptian economy, so investment would return and conditions would generally improve without delay.

semiofficial verina: High Blood Pressure (Hypertension) | Fitness ...

High blood pressure, the pressure in the vessels is increased. This increases the risk for stroke, vascular disease and other serious heart condition

Classic blood pressure: pressure cuff on the upper arm, listening to the sound when you release the pressure (Sphygmanometrie and auscultation)

Survey

Normal blood pressure is below 140/90 mmHg. High blood pressure (or hypertension also called arterial hypertension), these measurements are repeated or consistently exceeded.

High blood pressure occurs mainly as primary hypertension, ie high blood pressure ?in itself.? This means that it is not caused by other diseases. Only about ten to fifteen percent of people with specific diseases, such as kidney, adrenal or thyroid glands are the cause (secondary hypertension). With the treatment of these diseases is often regulated, the increased blood pressure.

However, the problem is that high blood pressure often initially makes no complaints. He usually remains undetected once. The health consequences are long term, however severe. Constantly high pressure strain on the heart. It also constricts the blood vessels, accelerating atherosclerosis (arteriosclerosis) and deteriorated to the circulation.

Therefore, high blood pressure is a leading risk factor for stroke and the next Diabetes (diabetes mellitus) and dyslipidemia a major cause of heart disease such as heart attack and heart failure. The risk of disability and death is high blood pressure increased significantly with these complications.

Also, kidney and eye disease are often based on high blood pressure. As a result, it can lead to kidney failure, and vision impairment, worst come to blindness.

Symptoms:

Over time usually occur initially only general symptoms such as dizziness, headaches, palpitations or stumble, nervousness and insomnia. Other symptoms depend on the possible vascular and organ damage. Sudden blurred vision, double vision can also, for example, be a warning sign of a stroke: Immediately go to the doctor!

Diagnosis:

?

epeated pressure measurements can confirm the diagrnosis. In addition, the heart, the metabolism, the kidneys, the eyes may also be checked. Rarely even further investigations are necessary.

?

?

Therapy:

Numerous effective and safe drugs can lower high blood pressure. New is a catheter treatment, deserted in the renal nerves by supplying radio frequency power are (initially only in intractable hypertension, the method is not yet widely implemented). ?Universal medicine? is a healthy lifestyle. It depends mainly on two points: a balanced, not the metabolism onerous, as a low-salt diet and regular exercise. Low stress, moderate alcohol consumption and not smoking do the rest. If you are overweight, you should lose weight permanently. All this helps to keep the blood pressure in the ?Grunen area? ? a good prerequisite to remain cardiovascular fit.

Santa Clarita housing update reports for Christmas Week 2012

It has been a while since we have produced our Resources for the Cities Within the Santa Clarita by bullet points. ?This is our weekly real estate update for the Cities that compose the Santa Clarita Valley. ?While the holidays are not as ?active? as other parts of the year, we have been watching as there is a lot of real estate inventory entering escrow with with regard to properties for sale in the SCV.

Watching the current trends and numbers in Single Family Residences can be seen with our Newest Market update reports for the Santa Clarita Valley Cities. ?Click on each of the links(at the bottom of this page) to view each city with more detail. And click through twice on each link?

Here is a break down on the report for Castaic California and the Single Family Residences therein:

For the week of December 24, 2012 in Castaic CA we have seen as the Median list prices have reduced to a level of $329,999.00. ?This is a downward trend for Castaic CA. ?This report is referencing Single Family Homes only. ?Condo?s and Town-homes are part of a different report we will be posting tomorrow at this very Same Sellers real estate blog for Santa Clarita Ca.

We have noted that there is a price per square foot decrease to $164.00 a square foot. ?However, the Days on the market, the times it takes a property to sell has increased to 108 days. When we see this trend we can determine a couple of things. ?Lending is becoming more difficult to obtain, getting approved for loans and to close them, is like pulling teeth :) ?We can also deduce that the property involved has some sort of ?requirement? in order to sell. ?It may be a short sale that has to be negotiated. ?It could also be a Foreclosure that is waiting on investor approval. ?Both of these scenarios could increase the ?days on market times?.

Over 1/4 of homes that are for sale experienced a price decrease during this week from the week before. ?In today?s Castaic real estate market, that typically has to do with the appraisers in the employ of the Buyers seeing that the home is worth less than the amount they had the home listed for. ?The fault could be with the seller, with the bank (if a short sale) or with the bank (if a foreclosure). ?When the buyers appraiser does their job in appraising the home for sale, they may come in with a very different number. ?This is when we start seeing price reductions in the current Santa Clarita real estate market.

Prices typically increase when we have other real estate factors at play. ?It could be that during the short sale approval process, the bank determines that the home is being sold at less than fair market value. ?This could be the fault of the agent undercutting the real estate market or potentially the short sale seller being misinformed. ?The bank who owns the asset, in doing their due?diligence, determines that the home should be sold for more than the agreed upon list price and for more than the current offer that is in place. ?So, they increase the price of the home. ?That is what we have seen in this?numeric?- an increase of 4%.

All of these reports and their data are?obtainable for you by email. ?All you have to do is to visit our Reports Pages for Santa Clarita real estate. ?Visit and subscribe to any of the reports you desire. ?You can choose from full city reports for the Santa Clarita valley or by zip codes, thereby narrowing the results of your real estate data. ?The reports get emailed to you very week so you can see what we talk about on our Santa Clarita sellers blog.

Obama spending Christmas Day with family in Hawaii

KAILUA, Hawaii (AP) ? President Barack Obama is spending Christmas Day with his family at a rented vacation home in his native Hawaii.

White House officials have not released the details of all the first family's Christmas Day activities. On Tuesday morning, Obama traveled from the suburban Honolulu home to a Marine Corps base for a workout.

The Obama family flew to Hawaii from Washington on Friday night. White House officials have not announced when the president is expected to go back to Washington but say he is likely to curtail his holiday vacation, perhaps returning as early as Wednesday.

In the past, Obama has spent 10 to 14 days in Hawaii at Christmastime. Budget negotiations with lawmakers over the so-called fiscal cliff have complicated this year's trip.

Biggest Media Departures And Arrivals Of 2012

The past year in media saw on-air talent switch networks, new shows launch, publications fold, hosts leave, leadership shake-ups and more.

The most notable departures and arrivals occurred on morning television programs across the broadcast networks. The arguably worst-handled departure was "Today" co-host Ann Curry's teary exit from the NBC morning news program. Her departure sent the cash cow into troubled waters filled with declining ratings, gossip-fueled press reports, and what some considered an image problem.

Over at ABC, co-host Robin Roberts took medical leave after being diagnosed with a rare blood and bone marrow disorder, MDS. And ABC's mid-morning show "Live! With Kelly" found its new co-host in Michael Strahan. While at CBS, former "CBS This Morning" host Erica Hill was replaced with the network's chief White House correspondent Norah O'Donnell. Hill landed at NBC's "Today" show to host the program's weekend edition.

But multiple changes occurred behind the scenes in the cable news industry as well?notably Jeff Zucker's appointment as CNN's new president. However arrivals and departures were not just limited to TV. The Newspaper, magazine, and online industries saw shake-ups as well?most notable being Newsweek publishing its final print edition just before the company moved to an all-digital format.

Take a look at the slideshow below to see the year in media arrivals, departures and shake-ups. These slides are in no particular order.

  • Ann Curry Leaves "Today"

In a messy morning TV shake-up, Ann Curry was ousted from "Today" one year she took over as co-host. She spent more than a decade on the show. The program has not yet fully recovered from the departure as many viewers site the network's treatment of Curry as the reason why they tuned away.

  • Savannah Guthrie Replaces Ann Curry At "Today"

Shortly after Curry left "Today," Savannah Guthrie was named as co-host. Guthrie joined the "Today" show's 9:00 a.m. hour one year earlier, when Curry was promoted to co-host.

  • Matt Lauer's Popularity Fades

The beloved NBC morning host's popularity dwindled after Ann Curry left "Today" as some viewers blamed Lauer for her departure. Rumors swirled in tabloids that Lauer was involved in the decision. NBC News chief Steve Capus and "Today's" then-executive producer Jim Bell repeatedly defended Lauer in the press, stressing that the he was not involved with the network's decision to replace Curry with Savannah Guthrie.

  • Willie Geist Joins "Today"

"Morning Joe" co-host and frequent "Today" guest host officially joined the NBC News morning show. He still appears on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" from 6-7:00 a.m., then crosses the plaza to host the 9:00 a.m. hour of "Today."

  • Norah O'Donnell Joins "CBS This Morning"

CBS' chief White House correspondent Norah O'Donnell joined the network's morning show over the summer.

  • Erica Hill Leaves "CBS This Morning" For "Today"

Erica Hill previously co-hosted "CBS This Morning" with Charlie Rose and Gayle King, but was replaced earlier this year. She recently joined the "Today" show's weekend edition and co-hosts the program alongside Lester Holt on Saturdays and Sundays.

  • Ryan Seacrest Joins NBC News As Olympics Correspondent For "Today"

Ryan Seacrest joined NBC News just before the Olympics as a correspondent. He traveled to London with the "Today" show and appeared on the program a number of times. Seacrest, a large presence on the E! that, like NBC Universal, is owned by Comcast, was widely rumored to eventually replace Matt Lauer when he leaves "Today."

  • Executive Producer Jim Bell Leaves "Today"

After seven years as the "Today" show's executive producer, Jim Bell left the morning show for a role with NBC Sports. Bill executive produced the network's coverage of the 2012 London Olympics, which brought in record ratings and revenue, despite complaints from viewers. The departure seemed almost inevitable after "Today" experienced a year filled with declining ratings and a nasty anchor shake-up.

  • "Live! With Kelly And Michael" Launches

After Regis Philbin left "Live!" at the end of 2011, the ABC morning show announced the addition of Michael Strahan as co-host in September.

  • Robin Roberts Takes Medical Leave

"GMA" co-host Robin Roberts went on medical leave from the ABC morning show in September, after being diagnosed with the rare blood and bone marrow disorder, MDS. "GMA" has kept viewers abreast of her recovery journey.

  • George Stephanopoulos Returns To "This Week"

George Stephanopoulos returned to ABC News' Sunday public affairs show "This Week" after Christiane Amanpour left the show in December 2011. He previously anchored the morning show for eight years before Amanpour, who anchored the show for a little more than one year.

  • "Face The Nation" Extends To 1 Hour

Bob Schieffer's dream finally came true when CBS' Sunday public affairs program "Face The Nation" extended the show's length from 30 minutes to a full hour.

  • MSNBC Launches Melissa Harris-Perry's Weekend Show

Melissa Harris-Perry's new show launched shortly into 2012. Previously, Harris-Perry frequently filled-in for hosts Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O'Donnell.

  • Newsweek Ends Its Print Publication

Newsweek/The Daily Beast chief Tina Brown announced that the company will be transitioning to an all-digital format in 2013 and ending its print edition in 2012.

  • Kate White Leaves Cosmopolitan

White left Cosmopolitan after 14 years.

  • Marcus Brachli Steps Down As Washington Post Editor

Brauchli stepped down as editor of the Washington Post amidst rumors that he clashed with Post publisher Katharine Weymouth. He was replaced by Boston Globe editor Marty Baron.

  • New Orleans' Time-Picayune Cuts Back Print Edition

The daily New Orleans newspaper cut back to printing only three days per week, making New Orleans the biggest city in the United States without a daily newspaper.

  • Mark Thompson Joins The New York Times

Mark Thompson began his tenure as New York Times CEO amidst scandal. News broke that the BBC program "Newsnight" scratched an investigative report outing famed British broadcaster Jimmy Savile as a serial child sex offender. Thompson was director general of the BBC when the decision was made.

  • George Entwistle Resigns From BBC

George Entwistle resigned as director general of the BBC after the Jimmy Savile scandal struck the iconic broadcasting company.

  • The Daily Folds

News Corp.'s daily iPad news publication folded almost two years after it launched. The application was hailed as a wave of the future when it debuted, but failed to resonate with a large enough audience to sustain it.

  • HuffPost Live Launches

The Huffington Post debuted its video streaming network in April 2012.

  • Jeff Zucker Joins CNN

CNN Worldwide President Jim Walton stepped down from his post at the end of 2012. Former NBC Universal chief Jeff Zucker, famous for his nasty late night feud with Conan O'Brien, was named CNN's new chief.

  • CNN Launches "Early Start" And "Starting Point"

CNN's Soledad O'Brien returned to the mornings after the network debuted two new shows in 2012: "Early Start" from 5-7:00 a.m.; and "Starting Point" from 7-9:00 a.m. O'Brien hosts later show.

  • "Fox & Friends First" Launches

To compete with MSNBC's "Way Too Early" and CNN's "Early Start," Fox News debuted its early morning show, "Fox & Friends First."

  • Keith Olbermann Fired From Current TV

Keith Olbermann was fired from Current TV earlier this year. He sued the network, which then led Current TV to countersue. A nasty legal battle ensued. Olbermann was replaced by former New York governor Eliot Spitzer, who formerly co-hosted a program on CNN.

  • Dylan Ratigan Leaves MSNBC

Dylan Ratigan abruptly left MSNBC in June.

  • MSNBC Launches "The Cycle"

Dylan Ratigan's departure led MSNBC to launch "The Cycle," a news commentary show with four co-hosts.

  • "Katie" Debuts

Katie Couric's daytime television show "Katie" debuted in September to strong ratings. The newly appointed CNN chief, Jeff Zucker, served as the show's executive producer. He will step down from his post in mid-January.

  • "Anderson Live" Debuts And Gets Canceled

Anderson Cooper's daytime talk show went through a revamp after its first season, but was ultimately canceled.

'Extinct' whale found: Odd-looking pygmy whale traced back 2 million years

Extinct whale found? Well, sort of. Scientists have traced the lineage of the pygmy right whale back to an ancient family of whales called cetotheres, who were thought to be extinct.

By Tia Ghose,?LiveScience.com / December 19, 2012

The pygmy whale, a cetacean that looks radically different from all living whales, is actually the last living member of a group thought to have gone extinct 2 million years ago Credit:

The pygmy right whale, a mysterious and elusive creature that rarely comes to shore, is the last living relative of an ancient group of whales long believed to be extinct, a new study suggests.

The findings, published Tuesday, Dec. 18, in the Proceedings of the Royal Society B, may help to explain why the enigmatic marine mammals look so different from any other living whale.

"The living pygmy right whale is, if you like, a remnant, almost like a living fossil," said Felix Marx, a paleontologist at the University of Otago in New Zealand. "It's the last survivor of quite an ancient lineage that until now no one thought was around."

Living fossil

The relatively diminutive pygmy right whale, which grows to just 21 feet (6.5 meters) long, lives out in the open ocean. The elusive marine mammals inhabit the Southern Hemisphere and have only been spotted at sea a few dozen times. As a result, scientists know almost nothing about the species' habits or social structure.

The strange creature's arched, frownlike snout makes it look oddly different from other living whales. DNA analysis suggested pygmy right whales diverged from modern baleen whales such as the blue whale and the humpback whale between 17 million and 25 million years ago. However, the pygmy whales' snouts suggested they were more closely related to the family of whales that includes the bowhead whale. Yet there were no studies of fossils showing how the pygmy whale had evolved, Marx said. [In Photos: Tracking Humpback Whales]

To understand how the pygmy whale fit into the lineage of whales, Marx and his colleagues carefully analyzed the skull bones and other fossil fragments from pygmy right whales and several other ancient cetaceans.

The pygmy whale's skull most closely resembled that of an ancient family of whales called cetotheres that were thought to have gone extinct around 2 million years ago, the researchers found. Cetotheres emerged about 15 million years ago and once occupied oceans across the globe.

The findings help explain how pygmy whales evolved and may also help shed light on how these ancient "lost" whales lived. The new information is also a first step in reconstructing the ancient lineage all the way back to the point when all members of this group first diverged, he said.

Over the fiscal cliff: How hard a landing?

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Efforts to save the nation from going over a year-end "fiscal cliff" were in disarray as lawmakers fled the Capitol for their Christmas break. "God only knows" how a deal can be reached now, House Speaker John Boehner declared.

President Barack Obama, on his way out of town himself, insisted a bargain could still be struck before Dec. 31. "Call me a hopeless optimist," he said.

A look at why it's so hard for Republicans and Democrats to compromise on urgent matters of taxes and spending, and what happens if they fail to meet their deadline:

    ___

    NEW YEAR'S HEADACHE

Partly by fate, partly by design, some scary fiscal forces come together at the start of 2013 unless Congress and Obama act to stop them. They include:

? Some $536 billion in tax increases, touching nearly all Americans, because various federal tax cuts and breaks expire at year's end.

? About $110 billion in spending cuts divided equally between the military and most other federal departments. That's about 8 percent of their annual budgets, 9 percent for the Pentagon.

Hitting the national economy with that double whammy of tax increases and spending cuts is what's called going over the "fiscal cliff." If allowed to unfold over 2013, it would lead to recession, a big jump in unemployment and financial market turmoil, economists predict.

    ___

WHAT IF THEY MISS THE DEADLINE?

If New Year's Day arrives without a deal, the nation shouldn't plunge onto the shoals of recession immediately. There still might be time to engineer a soft landing.

So long as lawmakers and the president appear to be working toward agreement, the tax hikes and spending cuts could mostly be held at bay for a few weeks. Then they could be repealed retroactively once a deal was reached.

The big wild card is the stock market and the nation's financial confidence: Would traders start to panic if Washington appeared unable to reach accord? Would worried consumers and businesses sharply reduce their spending? In what could be a preview, stock prices around the world dropped Friday after House Republican leaders' plan for addressing the fiscal cliff collapsed.

Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke has warned lawmakers that the economy is already suffering from the uncertainty and they shouldn't risk making it worse by blowing past their deadline.

    ___

    WHAT IF THEY NEVER AGREE?

If negotiations between Obama and Congress collapse completely, 2013 looks like a rocky year.

Taxes would jump $2,400 on average for families with incomes of $50,000 to $75,000, according to a study by the non-partisan Tax Policy Center. Because consumers would get less of their paychecks to spend, businesses and jobs would suffer.

At the same time, Americans would feel cuts in government services; some federal workers would be furloughed or laid off, and companies would lose government business. The nation would lose up to 3.4 million jobs, the Congressional Budget Office predicts.

"The consequences of that would be felt by everybody," Bernanke says.

    ___

    THE TAXES

Much of the disagreement surrounds the George W. Bush-era income tax cuts, and whether those rates should be allowed to rise for the nation's wealthiest taxpayers. Both political parties say they want to protect the middle-class from tax increases.

Several tax breaks begun in 2009 to stimulate the economy by aiding low- and middle-income families are also set to expire Jan. 1. The alternative minimum tax would expand to catch 28 million more taxpayers, with an average increase of $3,700 a year. Taxes on investments would rise, too. More deaths would be covered by the federal estate tax, and the rate climbs from 35 percent to 55 percent. Some corporate tax breaks would end.

The temporary Social Security payroll tax cut also is due to expire. That tax break for most Americans seems likely to end even if a fiscal cliff deal is reached, now that Obama has backed down from his call to prolong it as an economic stimulus.

    ___

    THE SPENDING

If the nation goes over the fiscal cliff, budget cuts of 8 percent or 9 percent would hit most of the federal government, touching all sorts of things from agriculture to law enforcement and the military to weather forecasting. A few areas, such as Social Security benefits, Veterans Affairs and some programs for the poor, are exempt.

    ___

    THERE'S MORE AT STAKE

All sorts of stuff could get wrapped up in the fiscal cliff deal-making. A sampling:

? Some 2 million jobless Americans may lose their federal unemployment aid. Obama wants to continue the benefits extension as part of the deal; Republicans say it's too costly.

? Social Security recipients might see their checks grow more slowly. As part of a possible deal, Obama and Republican leaders want to change the way cost-of-living adjustments are calculated, which would mean smaller checks over the years for retirees who get Social Security, veterans' benefits or government pensions.

? The price of milk could double. If Congress doesn't provide a fix for expiring dairy price supports before Jan. 1, milk-drinking families could feel the pinch. One scenario is to attach a farm bill extension to the fiscal cliff legislation ? if a compromise is reached in time.

? Millions of taxpayers who want to file their 2012 returns before mid-March will be held up while they wait to see if Congress comes through with a deal to stop the alternative minimum tax from hitting more people.

    ___

    CALL THE WHOLE THING OFF?

In theory, Congress and Obama could just say no to the fiscal cliff, by extending all the tax cuts and overturning the automatic spending reductions in current law. But both Republicans and Democrats agree it's time to take steps to put the nation on a path away from a future of crippling debt.

Indeed, the automatic spending cuts set for January were created as a last-ditch effort to force Congress to deal with the debt problem.

If Washington bypassed the fiscal cliff, the next crisis would be just around the corner, in late February or early March, when the government reaches a $16.4 trillion ceiling on the amount of money it can borrow.

Boehner says Republicans won't go along with raising the limit on government borrowing unless the increase is matched by spending cuts to help attack the long-term debt problem. Failing to raise the debt ceiling could lead to a first-ever U.S. default that would roil the financial markets and shake worldwide confidence in the United States.

To avoid that scenario, Obama and Boehner are trying to wrap a debt limit agreement into the fiscal cliff negotiations.

    ___

    SO WHAT'S THE HOLDUP?

They're at loggerheads over some big questions.

Obama says any deal must include higher taxes for the wealthiest Americans. Many House Republicans oppose raising anyone's tax rates. Boehner tried to get the House to vote for higher taxes only on incomes above $1 million but dropped the effort when it became clear he didn't have the votes.

Republicans also insist on deeper spending cuts than Democrats want to make. And they want to bring the nation's long-term debt under control by significantly curtailing the growth of Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security ? changes that many Democrats oppose.

Obama, meanwhile, wants more temporary economic "stimulus" spending to help speed up a sluggish recovery. Republicans say the nation can't afford it.

    ___

    IT'S NOT JUST WASHINGTON

Seems like they could just make nice, shake hands and split their differences, right?

But there's a reason neither side wants to give ground. The two parties represent a divided and inconsistent America. True, Obama just won re-election. But voters also chose a Republican majority in the House.

Republican and Democrats alike say they are doing what the voters back home want.

Neither side has a clear advantage in public opinion. In an Associated Press-GfK poll, 43 percent said they trust the Democrats more to manage the federal budget deficit and 40 percent preferred the Republicans. There's a similar split on who's more trusted with taxes.

About half of Americans support higher taxes for the wealthy, the poll says, and about 10 percent want tax increases all around. Still, almost half say cutting government services, not raising taxes, should be the main focus of lawmakers as they try to balance the budget.

When asked about specific budget cuts being discussed in Washington, few Americans express support for them.

    ___

    THE COUNTDOWN

Time for deal-making is short, thanks to the holiday and congressional calendars. Some key dates for averting the fiscal cliff:

? Lawmakers aren't expected to return to the Capitol until after Christmas, leaving less than a week to vote on a compromise before year's end.

? Obama and his family also left town for a Christmas vacation in Hawaii. The president said because the fiscal cliff was still unresolved, he would return to Washington this week.

? If lawmakers reach Dec. 31 without a deal, some economists worry that the financial markets might swoon.

? The current Congress is in session only through noon Eastern time on Jan. 3. After that, a newly elected Congress with 13 new senators and 82 new House members would inherit the problem.

Why Apple Could Launch iPad 5 In March Next Year ?

Apple?s current CEO?Tim Cook?is considered as one of the most efficient?administrators in?supply chain management. This time, he has been nominated as most powerful person in the U.S. wireless industry space as well. Undoubtedly, the CEO has brought the company to peak?which is currently sitting at hoard of cash. Being the CEO, Tim Cook has continuously been refreshing its all product lineups, and this time, we could easily see a slew of Apple?s revamped products in the market. On the other hand, the company?s former CEO?Steve Jobs? differentiated the company (compare to other technology companies) through visionary products. He believed that an innovative product would be a?pillar of success for any technology company.

But, Tim Cook wants to differentiate Apple by premium products. This is the reason why he is continuously refreshing the company?s products lineups.?However, the strategy has been successful so far, and it?s probably better in sense that people don?t feel like they should wait for a long time to get their hand on the company?s new products such as a new iPad and iPhone.

According to a Japanese site Macotakara, Apple could launch a bigger iPad (say fifth generation iPad) as soon as in March next year. The fifth generation iPad is expected to be more like the iPad Mini, a thinner and lighter Tablet. Apple just released its fourth generation iPad in October this year, and now, there?s a buzz around about iPad 5.

However, it?s also said that the internal of iPad 5 will be similar to its predecessor (iPad 4). The new iPad (iPad 5) will feature 4 mm, 17 mm and 2 mm smaller in height, width and depth than the current models. Of course, the company is trying to put?pedal to the metal by launching out new iPad updates in every six months. The company is endeavoring to make sure that Samsung,?Microsoft, Google and Amazon could not catch up in the Tablet market.

    iPad 5 image leaked

Six month ahead since the launch of iPad 3, Apple launched fourth iteration of its iPad (iPad 4), which is virtually identical to the iPad 3 except the processor. The processor in iPad 3 has been bumped up to an A6X, which is claimed twice as fast as the A5X processor found in the iPad 3. Apparently, the company?s iPad 4 launch surprised everyone in October this year.

Apple is currently facing fierce competition from Microsoft?s new Surface Tablet. The Tablet (Surface) is expected to reach 1 million units figure by the end of this year. Although, the figure is quite low compare to the unit shipments of iPads in Q4 this year, but it could be threat for Apple?s iPad business. In other words, if Microsoft?s Surface Tablet does succeed to grab the attention of consumers and businesses, it would definitely be a risk to Apple?s Tablet shipments. It might be one of the reasons why Apple could launch its fifth generation iPad soon.

In addition to this, Apple could also implement ?GF DITO? touchscreen technology in next iteration of Tablet with more power-efficient chips. The technology would help the company to make the product 23% thinner and 53% lighter than its predecessors (full-size iPad).?In the past, the company?s product launches were distributed across the year. But this time, the company is more intent to launch the products (especially mobile products) periodically in very short span of time.

Most Extreme Space Discoveries of 2012

Astronomical discoveries in 2012 have reshaped what we know about the universe and pushed some instruments to the very limits of their observing power.

Scientists discovered a galaxy that harbors an enormous central black hole 17 billion times more massive than the sun. Another research group spotted a scorching-hot rocky planet in the closest star system to our own. Meanwhile, the records for most massive galaxy cluster and most distant galaxy were shattered.

Here's a brief rundown of some of the year's most extreme and exciting cosmic finds.

    Most monstrous black hole

Observers probably don't want to get too close to NGC 1277 or its supermassive black hole, which takes up a large portion of the galaxy itself. The central black hole is 17 billion times more massive than the sun and makes up 14 percent of its host galaxy's mass, compared to the usual 0.1 percent.

Researchers were so flummoxed by the black hole's size that they took an extra year to double-check their calculations before publishing their results.

    Closest exoplanet to Earth

In a surprise discovery, astronomers found a planet that is about the same size as Earthin the star system next door. The rocky planet was found in Alpha Centauri, a three-star system just 4.3 light years from us. [Alpha Centauri Planet and Stars Explained (Infographic)]

Life is very unlikely on this world. Its rocky surface may be molten, since the planet orbits just 3.6 million miles (6 million kilometers) from its sun-like star. (Earth, for comparison, circles 93 million miles, or 150 million km, from the sun).

Alpha Centauri Bb, as the planet is known, was discovered through tracking gravitational wobbles around its planet star. The wobbles in this case are very subtle, making the star move back and forth at no more than 1.1 mph (1.8 kph). The research team stated it "pushed our technique to the limit," and some astronomers are skeptical that the planet even exists.

And just this month, a different research team detected five potential planets orbiting the star Tau Ceti, which lies only 11.9 light-years from Earth. One of the newly spotted candidate worlds may be capable of supporting life as we know it, scientists say.

    Smallest alien worlds

Astronomers using NASA's Kepler Space Telescope discovered three tiny planets 120 light-years away from Earth. Circling the star KOI-961, the smallest of the three planets is about the size of Mars, and all are smaller than Earth. Even the star itself is tiny ? just 70 percent larger than Jupiter.

"This is the most compact system of planets," said John Johnson, of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena. "It's like you have a shrink raygun and set it to seven times smaller and zapped a planetary system."

    Smallest solar system

KOI-500 has five planets so crowded together that their gravity jostles each other profoundly during their orbits. Their "years" are only 1, 3, 4.6, 7.1 and 9.5 days long. Furthermore, the planets are tiny: just 1.3 to 2.6 times the size of Earth.

All of this action takes place in an area 150 times smaller than Earth's orbit, astronomers said.

"At this rate, you could easily pack in 10 more planets, and they would still all fit comfortably inside the Earth's orbit," Darin Ragozzine, a planetary scientist at the University of Florida at Gainesville, said in a statement.

    Most distant galaxy

Much like the?100-meter dash world record, the record for farthest known galaxy often changes. The newest potential record-holderis UDFj-39546284, which had taken shape when the universe was only 380 million years old. Its extreme age was discovered in 2012 using new observations from NASA's Hubble Space Telescope.

The galaxy is part of a group of seven that astronomers examined, forming perhaps the first reliable observations of galaxies that formed 400 million and 600 million years after the Big Bang created the universe 13.7 billion years ago. [Gallery: Spectacular Hubble Photos]

    Oldest, most distant supernovas

In 2012, astronomers described what they think led to the oldest, most distant supernovas in the universe. Scientists believe some of these "super-luminous" supernovas come from massive stars ? 100 to 250 times the mass of the sun ? that explode and blast their matter into space.

Astronomers stated that inside these massive stars, gamma-ray light changes into electron pairs as well as antimatter positrons. The gamma rays usually stop the star from collapsing due to gravity, but the grip weakens as gamma rays convert to matter. It is at this point that the star implodes, sparking the explosion.

    Most massive galaxy cluster

At 2,000 times more massive than the Milky Way, a large cluster of galaxies some 7 billion light-years away dwarfs just about any other collection of matter known. Astronomers say the cluster ? properly known as? SPT-CLJ2344-4243and dubbed the Phoenix cluster ? appears to contain thousands of galaxies of many different sizes.

Astronomers first spotted the Phoenix cluster in 2010, but didn't realize its extent until they did follow-up observations with NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory. High-energy light pouring out of the cluster make it the most X-ray luminous one ever found, at 35 percent brighter than the last record-holder found.

    Biggest map of the universe

Courtesy of a mega map, astronomers are a step closer to understanding how the universe came to be. The Sloan Digital Sky Survey III released a map?that charts more than 1 million galaxies in a total volume of 70 billion cubic light-years.

The map could help astronomers better understand the mysterious dark matter and dark energy that appears to make up most of the universe, researchers said.

    Deepest view of the universe

The Hubble Space Telescope is peering back further and further in time. The famous orbiting observatory captured light that emanated 13.2 billion years ago, when the universe was just 500 million years old or so.

Hubble's picture, which is called the eXtreme Deep Field, shows galaxies and starlight accumulated over 10 years in a small bit of sky; this is the best method we have to see objects so far away. The photo is a successor to Hubble's "Ultra Deep Field", which the telescope took in 2003 and 2004. [Video: Hubble's eXtreme Deep Field]

    Most magnetic star

There's a star 20,000 light-years from Earth with a real magnetic personality. NGC 1624-2, which is about 35 times as massive as our sun, was spotted in the constellation Perseus. With a magnetic field 20,000 times stronger than the sun's? and 10 times more powerful than that of any known star ? NGC 1624-2 drags a blanket of trapped charged particles around it.

"Magnetic fields of this strength are extremely rare; they are only known to exist in a few other stars of much lower mass," study lead author Gregg Wade, an astronomer at the Royal Military College of Canada, told SPACE.com in a September interview. "To find such a strong field is very lucky."

X-ray blast in the universe's youth

A jet of X-rays emanating from quasar GB 1428 ? a galaxy that has a huge black hole in its center ? was found about 12.4 billion light-years from Earth. The radiation band is estimated at about twice the diameter of the Milky Way.

With the previous record-holder at 12.2 billion light-years away, astronomers said they are getting more information on how black holes behaved in the universe's early days.

Biggest core found in a ginormous galaxy

Lurking in a galaxy about 10 times the width of the Milky Way lies a large, diverse galactic core that doesn't seem to have a black hole associated with it.

The wispy core of A2261-BCG, which is about 10,000 light-years across, puzzles astronomers because supermassive black holes are expected to be at the heart of most galaxies. Hubble Space Telescope observations suggest the core might have been constructed when two galaxies merged.

Dr. Patty Ann Tublin: Reflections for Improving Work Relationships in ...

Stephen R. Covey, the best-selling author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, emphasized the value and importance of personal development skills as tantamount to one's success in business and life. The rise and fall of our career and business is often rooted in our ability to network, build, sustain and nurture professional relationships, both within and outside the workplace, in an authentic manner. Consequently, it is imperative we seize the opportunity to develop and enhance our relationship skills any chance we get.

The most important relationship we have is the one we have with our self. Understanding yourself is the foundation upon which all other interactions, both professionally and personally stem. Reflect on the past year and make an honest assessment of how you relate to others in the work place. Make a conscious effort to work on your personal flaws, while continuing to develop your interpersonal strengths. Many of us need to improve our communication skills -- where our ability to effectively listen is often inadequate. Additionally, we need to learn to understand our emotions better so we can control them, instead of our emotions controlling us.

The more confident and secure we are with ourselves, the less we will need to lash out at others, especially when criticized and/or stressed with looming deadlines. Rather than being defensive when criticized, try to pause and reflect upon the elements of truth found within the criticism, keeping our anger in check.

Reach out to your colleagues to nurture and solidify the relationships you have already established with them. During the holiday season thank your clients and anyone else within or outside your organization with whom you have worked with throughout the past year. Let them know how much you appreciate their help and efforts in achieving your organizations common goal. Do not underestimate the importance of how far a sincere "thank-you" goes in the work place.

Regardless of one's position within an organization, everyone loves to be acknowledged and appreciated. While reaching out to your colleagues, make sure you let them know you will be more than willing to help them out in any way possible in the coming year.

A sincere attempt to mend any friction you may have created or been a part of this past year could potentially go along way in creating a friendlier, less contentious relationship and work environment in the upcoming year. If you have had difficult moments with co-workers in the past year, now is a great time to reach across the aisle (as they say) and extend a hand.

Make amends and try to re-assure them that any work differences, whether it was in developing a strategic business plan, marketing initiative, setting goals, etc., was in fact a business difference and not a personal matter. Clearly state your intention and desire to work together in a more harmonious and aligned way in the upcoming year.

Success is not achieved within a vacuum. We must be able to build healthy relationships with others to achieve any success in business and life. Commit to increasing your ability to build these relationships in the upcoming year!

Toddler Pedicure Using Non-Toxic Polish and Remover {Review ...

My 3-year old LOVES to have her fingers and toes painted just like mom. The fingernail polish never seem to last long before chipping but her little piggies hold up for a while longer. Of course it?s much more fun to have pretty polish in the summer months when we can bare our toes outside. The frigid cold of a Minnesota winter doesn?t seem to phase her around the house but of course they?re covered in layer upon layer when we?re playing in the snow outside.

She has the cutest little piggies! Of course she chose the bright, bold pink (Hibiscus).

Some people call me crazy to try to paint her tiny nails but I think it?s such a fun mother/daughter treat for her. I have a pretty steady hand but here are some tips for a successful toddler mani/pedi.

    1. When they?re very young it works to set up in front of a movie that captures their attention.
    2. Use one coat if you want it to dry quickly (Assume quick chipping time. My daughter?s nails were nearly gone by the end of the day).
    3. Use two coats if you want longer wear time (see tip #4).
    4. Use dry drops or a hair dryer on the cool setting to help speed drying time.
    5. Use a correction pen to touch up nail edges (remove the tip and fill with your own non-toxic polish remover).
    6. Use a non-toxic polish and polish remover to keep chemicals away from little fingers and toes (especially those that are destined to go in their mouth).

I was intrigued to hear about a non-toxic nail polish and polish remover provided by Good Earth Beauty, a natural and organic beauty shop online. (If you?re interested in other organic cosmetics they have quite a selection online.)

    ?

I put the?Priti NYC Natural Soy Nail Polish Remover to the test on my old, chipped OPI polish pedicure. A few months ago I tried another non-acetone brand name polish remover and it didn?t touch the OPI polish. I wound up digging out the acetone.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that this natural soy polish remover DID indeed work. It took a little work at first but once it started coming off it came off easily. I?d suggest rubbing a bit on each nail to let it soak while you work on the larger nail.

The best thing about this nail polish remover was the lack of odor. It actually smelled pleasant with a citrusy smell. It also didn?t leave my skin and nails feeling dried out or burned. It did the opposite and left them feeling hydrated! It does say to wash your skin and nails well to remove all of the oil prior to applying nail polish.

For a great review of other acetone-free polish removers check out?the review at Pretty Painted Nails.

I love the colors Gabriel natural nail polish has on their site (this one is?Tahitian Orchid). It applied just as easily as any other polish I?ve used. It wasn?t tacky or thick.

I especially liked how evenly it covered even in one coat. Here?s a side-by-side comparative. I applied only one coat on my daughter?s fingers/toes above and it covered very well unlike some brands that leave streaky color. I chose two coats for my toes because I like the deeper color. This has just the right amount of shimmer.

This?Gabriel natural nail polish?is also free of the ?toxic trio? formaldehyde, toluene and DBP.

    ?

Read more about the toxins in the average polish on WebMD.

The lab tested the products for three chemicals ? dibutyl phthalate, toluene, and formaldehyde ? commonly called the ?toxic trio.??The chemicals have been of concern for their potential health risks, especially to nail salon workers.?In recent years, some nail product makers have removed these chemicals from their products, then labeled them as non-toxic.

Good Earthy Beauty recently responded to the claims with this statement:

Good Earth Beauty only sells nail polish that is:

    ? Formaldehyde Free
    ? Toluene Free
    ? DBP Free

My 2 main brands are Priti and Gabriel Cosmetics. I?will be speaking with company owners to see if any independent testing has been done on their polishes since they were not part of this study. I?will also look to carry additional brands that pass the test.?Just another reason to make conscious, informed choices!
